Men, women and coffee.

Psychologists at Bristol University have discovered that the performance of women in a stressful situation improve if they were drinking coffee, and that the performance of men under these circumstances reduced. Men become less confident and need more time to accomplish a task.

These findings show that coffee has a different effect on men and women under stress.

Of caffeine in coffee is known that it has an energizing effect, albeit brief, and thus reduces fatigue and drowsiness.

These researchers wanted to investigate what coffee does when it is used in stress circumstances, especially when larger quantities were used in stressful situations.

These researchers believe that the difference in effect of coffee between the sexes lies in the way men and women cope with stress.

They argue that men tend to have "fight or flight", and that women are more inclined to collaborate on a solution to the problem, something that psychologists refer to as 'tend and befriend'.

A corollary of this finding is that especially men are better off limiting their consumption of coffee when they expect a stressful situation or find themselves in a stressful situation. Since coffee has a stimulating effect on the body this counts for women as well, but this research has shown adverse effects just for men.
