SMOKING AND STRESS.

Nicotine gets into the body with the inhaling of smoke. Nicotine makes for the release of substances called neurotransmitters, such as endorphins and norepinephrine. These compounds give a pleasant feeling, but that feeling only lasts for a short time. It is a kind of small pick me up. Nicotine is a stimulant substance, making the heart rate is going up.

It is also the case in smokers that lighting and smoking a cigarette is a kind of time out of their problems, a brief pit stop where you don't have to think about your problems.

Cigarette smoke contains, besides nicotine, also carbon monoxide.

This carbon monoxide takes the place of oxygen in the blood, so you can transport less oxygen in your blood.

Cigarette smoke holds also tar, which has a very negative effect on your condition.

Smoking a cigarette in order to deal with problems is a very destructive way of coping. It provides low resistance at a time when the resistance is already under fire as a result of stress.
